es·cap·ism
/əˈskāpˌiz(ə)m,eˈskāpˌiz(ə)m/
"the tendency to escape from the real world to the delight or security of a fantasy world. escapism may reflect a periodic, normal, and common impulse, as might be seen in harmless daydreams, or it may be evidence of or accompany symptoms of neurosis or more serious mental pathology"
(APA Dictionary of Psychology, n.d.).
Imagine...a world with no sunlight, just darkness littered with streetlights, the moon, and the stars. No people walking the streets, a few cars passing by but they never stop, who's driving 'em? Doesn't matter really... And then there's you, walking alone, observing, wandering, pondering, all by yourself... It might sound like a nightmare to some but to me?
That's my safe space. That's my dream...
From the hours of 11 PM to 1 AM, on various nights, I tried my best to create and capture this world, in the bustling city of Dallas, TX, downtown and in the areas immediately surrounding it. I didn't expect to find much solace out there, but I did...
It's an entirely different setting than in the daytime, ya know? So different, in fact, that it feels like an alternate reality.
A perfect little getaway.
These photographs were captured on a Canon Rebel SL3, with two different lenses (50mm, 10-18mm). Look 'em over and enjoy.
I appreciate you for being here.
